Drones are an increasingly popular topic not only in public, but also in private companies, among scientists and researchers. In society, however, people are reluctant to use unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for a number of applications. These include the strongest resistance factors: security and privacy. Increasingly intertwined issues such as urbanization, traffic congestion and climate change, however, require new solutions. While the rules are being established, new smart city solutions, such as unmanned aircraft, will slowly find a fair share of public acceptance. NASA's new UTM (Unmanned Aircraft Systems Traffic Management) project is a key initiative to develop uniform rules for UAVs.1
